One thing I didn't catch was "only co-authored a tier 2 article." I read that as 2nd author on an article. If OP is first author, it's an okay-not-great position (if they're not in health/demography where a hundred pubs are expected). You can land directional / liberal arts college types with that record. But if it's a 2nd author pub, OP is probably looking at a postdoc to work on publishing that dissertation.
What to do if no pubs?

I know several of the jobs I applied to were filled by candidates with no publications (including a 3rd year AP). For the record, I have 5 pubs (2 journal articles and 3 book chapters) with 2 forthcoming (1 journal and 1 chapter) and some two invited articles in the works.
Unfortunately, I don't have a very big sociology network and come from a VLRM. I think this has killed me on the market (I landed a job, but it's not ideal by any means).

If you have no pubs, you must pub. And pub now.
I don't understand academics. If your job is french fry maker, you can't stand around talking about fries, and who has more fries, and how unfair it is that its so hard to get a good job as a french fryer with no fries.
You just make fries.
Pub.

Fast food workers don't have their fries sent to random other fry makers, who might not actually know how to make fries, or might not like this type of fry, or might be jealous that these fries taste better than their fries.

Pub.Or fast food workers might send the fries out to fry reviewers and then hear back 9 months later that the fry reviewers want you to change it from curly fries to steak fries. Then you spend 2 months changing the fries and send it back to reviewers. After another 3 months a new reviewer says that you made onion rings instead of fries, and the editor agrees that onion rings are not appropriate for that journal.
A year and a half later you are stuck with half-curly and half-steak fries that an anonymous stranger told you were onion rings.

Pub.Or go on strike and demand a $5/hr pay bump...

Is that Central Connecticut State University? I heard the Connecticut State system (Southern, Eastern, Western, and Central Connecticut State Universities) went to a 5/5. They are all 4 year degree granting institutions that were previously on a 4/4. Can anyone confirm or deny?
