GSU is the best job in my book. That department has made huge strides. I like the qualitative people there; Topalli, Jacques, Wright. They had the guts to hire Burt. They have some of the best junior faculty in the field, Oullet, Chen. Richard Wright is the chair. One of the nicest scholars around. I met him at ASC years ago. I too think GSU gets too much love in this site and I frequently state such. But Jacques hates the department so why would he pump it up? It’s more likely to be a qualitative grad student. Maybe CB? Maybe VT?
Someone at GSU -- cr_ap university, large community college of he south --- spends a lot of time on this site trying to create a halo around the CJ program. Aint' workin. I suspect Jacques is the person who does this.Clearly written by someone stuck in a dead-end teaching job at a lousy college.

Piquero has worked at something like 7 universities. The only two he spent significant time at were UT Dallas and Maryland. When he started at FSU he was approached by UT Dallas and was offered a position with them the VERY FIRST semester there. Thom Blomberg had already gone overboard with the offer to him and his wife and was not about to be strong-armed by them in their very first year of working there so he told them to pound sand, and they left. He has done that at every place he's been. He is known for glomming on to any and all young scholars out there and spends a huge amount of time chasing after media attention because he sees himself as a "public intellectual". He is the king of authorship trading and citation cartels. What more do you need to know? He's very open about who he is. Some people like Piquero (he does have his supporters) but many do not.

He was only a professor at Maryland for one year. He was at UT Dallas for 9 years, U of Florida for 6 years, and Temple for 4 years. He did one-year stints at FSU, John Jay, Maryland and Northeastern. I'm not fan of his but you're misrepresenting his career trajectory here.

I agree. He has over 5,000 citations and is seen as probably one of the top qualitative criminologists out there (not that there are that many). But, he's a middle aged whyte dude. He doesnt bring in grants as far as I know, so who is goingt o hire him at the Professor level?
