What are the best crim jobs to be had this year?

This be true. Plus, Atlanta is a great town.

Have you seen how many times those guys have published in Criminology? or their citations? GSU also has Burt (who is a pretty great scholar hatever you think of her stand on trans people in women�s restrooms? I see plenty of good names there; Jacques, Daigle, Topalli, and the former head of NIJ, Sabol. SHSU is a joke compared to them. Plus. Look where they are on a map.
Again, I don?t get the perception of GSU. Brezina and Wright hardly do anything anymore. I just looked at their CVs. The Sam Houston person getting s/h/I/t in the other threads has done more than them in recent years. They?re a good program, don?t get me wrong. But if you think they?re great because of Brezina and Wright then you should reassess.
I?d take GSU over ASU or Sam Houston in a heartbeat. That?s a very good department with some highly recognized scholars in Crim. Wright, Brezina, Burt, etc. not to mention Atlanta?s a great town. Sam Houston is in Huntsville.

Tough one. I’ve applied to both. If I got offers from both, which I wouldn’t, I’m unsure where I’d lean. 10 years ago it’s clear. Now it’s not. Maybe it’ll be clear in 10 years too.

Nope, not even close.

FSU is ground zero for the biggest scandal the field has seen in years. The senior faculty in that department, along with the dean and the FSU administration, failed to hold an established research fraud perpetrator accountable.

Would you want to drop in the middle of an obvious faculty civil war, knowing they had the choice to do the right thing and they weren't interested? Would you want to answer questions about your own standards and professionalism at ASC, or when you look for your next job?

Yeah, FSU has extremely tainted itself, and that affects everyone on the faculty. They completely wht-washed a fra/ud that is far worse than Goffman. Who would want to be involved with such a dept at all?

What happened? My theory: it's about the life-course of millenials. Having a home and a job of any kind is all of a sudden much more important than living a fabulous urban life in the bay area.

Where can you see the public access pay for Rutgers? All I can see on the website are pay scales.

From my point of view, Rutgers and Davis are the best crim-related jobs this year.

I’d take GSU and Rutgers for damn sure. Most other Crim departments have baggage. FSU had the ES thing, UT Dallas lost the Piquero, UMSL lost…everyone, Penn State has the most miserable grad students in the discipline, and Cincinatti is in the midst of an all out faculty revolt.

What is the story about Cincinnati?

no leadership / clue lesseadership. some selfish associate and full professors. decisions that benefit a few but hurt program. personal attacks of faculty who speak up. some racists on faculty. infighting. FOIA of junior faculty emails by full professor after their chair search. list goes on and on. notice respected people, like PW and CS, starting to leave? a bad situation, getting worse. hear most of their faculty with standards trying to get out.

Eck, Wright and Barnes are a toxic cadre. Most of the rest of the faculty are against them and what they're doing. But they are tenured, powerful and tend toward bullying (esp Wright) and most other faculty don't have the energy/interest to fully engage in fighting them. Much easier to just do your work, keep a low profile and stay off campus as much as possible. Ter/rible situation.

Yea I mean he's not going into faculty meetings and starting fistfights with colleagues. But he is one of several of the most toxic senior profs in that department and has participated in what 9b2a describes above.
