Harvard and Chicago are living proof of what happens when mentorship ends. Their models are clearly hurting their students and they aren't placing nor graduating. It's a disgrace for such resource-rich departments.

Look, I'm not a huge fan of Harvard's program. But judging a program by the number of ABDs it placed last year, which was a disaster for ABDs, is not quite fair. Berkeley didn't place any ABDs either. Michigan placed one.
