is their new cultural boogeyman to take back the suburbs. Does anyone even care about this beyond the pearlclutchers and witchunters in their base? Or is this attack working?
The GOP attack on CRT
-
the teacher's union has CRT in their most recent decision points. its definitely part of K-12 usually through some 23 year old DEI consultant.
I think it is quite important - you've got parents riled up, school board meetings getting heated, its impacting everyday life in a way that people perceive. this is more of a lightning rod than deficits and impeachments. -
Hardly a bogeyman. Some of the lesson plans and HR training examples we?ve seen almost make EBS seem sober by comparison.
But its not being taught in publicly funded K-12 schools - which is what their criticism has pivoted to.Academic CRT is not being taught in schools. But some of the ideas derived from it very much are being taught. It’s an emergent civic religion, and a very dangerous one.
-
literally never encountered CRT in my personal or professional life after years in academia. Not sure how these right-wingers living out in the suburbs are having their lives ruined by it.
We have seen a lot of people lose their jobs for wrongthink, and that seems a reasonable thing to be concerned about. I also would not really want my children being taught Kendi-style anti-rac/ism at school.

Also, have fun telling your kids about the white-washed history of America. Trail of tears, red-lining, Jim Crow, etc.

I don’t think anyone serious (which obvs excludes most GOP politicians) is arguing to stop teaching history. The more serious concern is lesson plans that reify and essentialize race and historical guilt, and teach unfounded non/sense like wht privilege and color bli/nd ra/cism. This trend is profoundly anti-intellectual and dan/gerous.

Bro have you heard of driving while blk?? Jesus you're either i.g.n.o.r.a.n.t. or just s.t.u.p.i.d.

But telling a child that she has wht privilege is ab/surd. It’s impossible to measure at the individual level. Teaching the child such non/sense only encourages her to essentialize skin color.

Yes, I am well aware of racism in the CJ system. But telling a child that she has wht privilege is ab/surd. Its impossible to measure at the individual level. Teaching the child such non/sense only encourages her to essentialize skin color.Telling a white child they are privileged from overzealous and racist police is not ab/surd. It's reality. You realize kids are smart enough to understand that, right? More importantly, you clearly are missing the point of CRT. It's not to essentialize skin color, it's giving those historically ignored a voice and letting them tell their history.

What do you think will happen to actual children?

I actually teach the race course, and assign some CRT every year. I’m well aware of its strengths and weaknesses. I don’t want my child taught that her skin color determines her experience. Because it’s not true; or at best only marginally true—if you could even measure it at the individual level, which you cannot.
-
and check out some of the lawsuits parents are filing. they include examples of the lesson plans being used by DEI consultants. history is not part of any of these lesson plans. its a lot of self identification, you-are-an-oppressor role play and so on. mixed race families and children are especially going to fight back against this.
-
Me either. The CRT scare is just a fear mongering tactic used by the GOP to rile up insecure whites to get their donations. It will get some money and then they will move on to another boogeyman. Anyone who follows politics and hasn't drank all the GOP koolaid can figure this out.

I agree with all this. But the prevalence of dangerous CRT-derived teaching is also growing. Both things can be true at the same time.
