The planet is literally burning up and Republicans want to makeup some bu11$hit moral panic. COVID needs to wipe them all out.
Did you miss the wht supremacy panic last year? There are two sides in this struggle to shape the American civic religion.
Me either. The CRT scare is just a fear mongering tactic used by the GOP to rile up insecure whites to get their donations. It will get some money and then they will move on to another boogeyman. Anyone who follows politics and hasn't drank all the GOP koolaid can figure this out.
literally never encountered CRT in my personal or professional life after years in academia. Not sure how these right-wingers living out in the suburbs are having their lives ruined by it.
Its quite literally the same freakout every few years with a couple words changed.
Remember how a few years ago it was "intersectionality" or "post modernism"
the "academic radicals are threatening us all" thing has been around since the 50s.
Also, have fun telling your kids about the white-washed history of America. Trail of tears, red-lining, Jim Crow, etc.
I don?t think anyone serious (which obvs excludes most GOP politicians) is arguing to stop teaching history. The more serious concern is lesson plans that reify and essentialize race and historical guilt, and teach unfounded non/sense like wht privilege and color bli/nd ra/cism. This trend is profoundly anti-intellectual and dan/gerous.
"Unfounded non/sense like why privilege"
Bro have you heard of driving while blk?? Jesus you're either i.g.n.o.r.a.n.t. or just s.t.u.p.i.d.
Yes, I am well aware of racism in the CJ system. But telling a child that she has wht privilege is ab/surd. Its impossible to measure at the individual level. Teaching the child such non/sense only encourages her to essentialize skin color.
Telling a white child they are privileged from overzealous and racist police is not ab/surd. It's reality. You realize kids are smart enough to understand that, right? More importantly, you clearly are missing the point of CRT. It's not to essentialize skin color, it's giving those historically ignored a voice and letting them tell their history.
dude, literally every parent tells their kids they are priviledged
“Dangerous” seems quite hyperbolic. There is nothing to be afraid of. It’s all hype.

I agree with all this. But the prevalence of dangerous CRT-derived teaching is also growing. Both things can be true at the same time.

White supremacy, in part, led to 1-6. What has CRT done? That's right, STFU.
Hardly a bogeyman. Some of the lesson plans and HR training examples weve seen almost make EBS seem sober by comparison.
But it’s not being taught in publicly funded K-12 schools - which is what their criticism has pivoted to.
But it will be if we conservatives don’t intervene now.

CRT reifies "white privilege" which is a debunked concept. Impoverished whites have less structural opportunity than impoverished blacks to escape poverty, have worse mortality outcomes, and are more likely to be killed by police on a per encounter basis.
If CRT is a tool of neoliberal corporatists (as some of the economic reductionists of this site like to point out) and the GOP is against CRT, does that mean the GOP's latest push is to undermine neoliberal corporatism?
CRT is obviously openly sponsored by the corporate ruling class, and is basically the civic religion of the privileged.
Every so many decades in the US, party realignments happen. The GOP is basically emerging as the party of the white working class, and increasingly using anti-corporate rhetoric indeed. Among whites, the party division is now almost exactly opposite as it was during the FDR era. Changes in policy resultant from voting base realignments would be obvious to expect.
White supremacy, in part, led to 1-6. What has CRT done? That's right, STFU.
Only one person was murdered on 1/6, and she was an unarmed protester murdered by police. No protesters had guns.
CRT, in part, led to BLM riots in which the rioters murdered dozens of people and in which many rioters had firearms.
If CRT is a tool of neoliberal corporatists (as some of the economic reductionists of this site like to point out) and the GOP is against CRT, does that mean the GOP's latest push is to undermine neoliberal corporatism?
"As of this time, the Republican Party must file for divorce from big business and never look back. Walk away from the oligarchs, the multinational corporations and all the other massive business conglomerates that have no loyalty to this country. We have a disloyal elite in this country. The wealthiest, most privileged, most powerful people are trying to destroy this country."
-- Stephen Miller at CPAC 2021
It's not a GOP attack, it's common people using commonsense to question a body of BS that has been called "theory". CRT is BARELY a theory.
is their new cultural boogeyman to take back the suburbs. Does anyone even care about this beyond the pearlclutchers and witchunters in their base? Or is this attack working?

dude, it's literally a overblown media construction. rando people would never have heard of CRT if not for mainstream media.
I've barely heard of it and I do research that borders on the sociology of race, and have published fairly well. I did finally read white fragility, and it doesn't seem very "critical" and doesn't even have any "theory". it's just an old white lady who runs workshops for corporations to avoid discrimination lawsuits.

No, a movement that espouses rac/ial essentialism and that only permits a single causal variable is dangerous. Innocent people are losing their jobs for wrongthink. Here is just one of many examples:

You haven’t really thought this through. CRT is advocating for ideas that will lead to more wht supremacy.
Or maybe you are overthinking it lol. Conservatives are more fearful. So it is easy to manipulate them with scare tactics. It's amazing how many people are afraid of CRT when it is a big nothingburger. Really brilliant tactics by the GOP to get more fundraising TBH.
