It's a new NCES report. Do you think we know so much about this that the government should stop researching it? And the public is so well-versed that journalists should stop reporting on new government reports about it?

No, ppncc, it is just that you wrote a blog post with no apparent awareness that this is a common pattern, well documented in lots of sociology papers for decades. One expects Dynarski to be unaware of sociology, but one would hope for more from you., given that you do usually write well informed pieces.

The public deserves a little more credit than that. Yes, they know that people with more resources and status have better outcomes in almost every imaginable way. They believe it completely. No one needs academics to tell them this or reporters to tell them that academics and the government are still working hard on the case. In fact, the more interesting question would probably be what outcomes are NOT better for those with higher SES.
Is there nothing with more substance or more interesting in those data?
