My controversial opinion is that Grace Kao is not that great, she really isn't.
It is very hard to be a great sociologist. With good training and self discipline being a good sociologist is pretty achievable.
Mediocre sociologists are also rare, in that most of them can through work become good sociologists.
Or basically this discipline has very few legitimate members of the middle class. Talent in this discipline is an inverted bell curve.

I think that would be a bimodal bell curve, not inverted or regular.
Although this convo itself probably undermines the point, since participating in it, especially in this mathematically confused way, suggests we are probably each in the mediocre middle.

But just to be on the safe side: Kindly do not ingest our cleaning products.
It's heavily implied enough that companies had to come out and say don't do it though.

Yeah he's not directly saying it but man you can sure take away that injecting bleach into your lungs or other parts of your body is a good idea according to him.
I honestly wouldn't take that away. When I watched the video after hearing about it, I actually wondered if I watched the wrong one. I really was expecting the critics to be right, because I didn't see it as out of character for him.
I don't think this is the same as his pushing hydoxychloroquine. He wasn't so much asking as insisting back then, IIRC.
Anyway, thanks for talking seriously about this. I'm not allowed to vent this stuff in my academic circles. If I shared this publicly and not anonymously, my peers would treat me as a Trump apologist. I think truth matters, and I want Trump supporters to take my criticisms of him seriously.
