I have mixed feelings on this. The police were way out of line. But this clown parked across two handicap spots. I kind of feel he had something more coming than just a parking ticket.
Police tazing NBA player

I kind of feel like disabled people are more subaltern than a rich NBA player.Do you know there were no other spots? Is the problem that the player took 2? At the end of the day, it's just a place to put a car. Probably didn't need any retribution.

I reject the premise of your complaint entirely. But let's assume you're on to something about the parking violation. It was 2am!!! The parking lot was completely empty.

There's something wrong with you if "but he parked across two handicap spots" is what jumps out at you when watching that video. "Way out of line" is the least of you. Surely you can see why the black community is seething at incidents like these?
-
How many van-accessible spots were available after this guy blocked two of them for no reason? Many lots only have two such spots. If the parking lot was empty, then why did he have to block the handicap spots?
Parking lot was entirely empty...You don't seem to understand the reason for van-accessible spots. If there are only two and this guy blocks both of them, then there is no van-accessible spot left.
Furthermore, if a car is parked across two handicap spots, it's most likely blocking the wheelchair ramp.
-
The "reason" for van accessible spots is to ensure the person has ample space to get out of their vehicle and access their motorized wheelchair or whatever. And parking spots don't "block" wheelchair ramps. The parking lot was completely empty, so a hypothetical handicapped person could have parked anywhere. Sure, they would have had to roll themselves an extra few feet, but so what? It would have simply been a mild inconvenience. Should the guy have parked in the handicapped spots? Of course not, but who cares at this point? The issue is more about him being beaten, humiliated, and harassed for something that you would have likely not even received a ticket for given the time of the incident. It blows my mind that you're so stuck on him parking illegally at a time in which no one is even going to the store. Perhaps it's just your way of rationalizing all of this since you probably feel threaten that some black man that's only 22 years old makes more money than you.

The first post already stipulated that the popo over-reacted, so you're going on about a straw man. This thread is about the young man's actual offense. Please try to focus.
If a car is parked across two handicap spots, then it is going sideways, and thus very possibly blocking a wheelchair ramp.
The reason for van-accessible spots is so that someone does not park too close to the van and block access for the van's ramp. If a ramped van parks in a regular spot, then the van becomes inaccessible to its user--regardless of how many empty spots there might be elsewhere in the lot.

What's up with straw man accusations on this website every time there is disagreement? I find it hilarious imagining you people yell the words straw man in real life every time someone disagrees with you.
Everyone on planet earth has acknowledged the guy shouldn't have parked in the spots. Please try to focus. Everyone on planet earth would be content with him receiving a parking ticket, something far more extreme than your likely punishment had you been the one to park in these spots at 2am. No one is even debating that, so why are you putting so much emphasis on it?
Regarding the "reason" for these accessible spots, you don't know what you're talking about. Their purpose is to ensure there is enough room for a wheel-chaired person to get out of their car. I can't really imagine how or why you think the ramp would have been blocked. You can clearly see from the video that he wasn't that close to the entry. A person could have simply wheeled themselves around the car, which is, like I already mentioned, a mild inconvenience.
Shall we continue debating this uselessness, or would you be willing to now talk about how he was beaten, humiliated, harassed, and likely feared for his life because some power-hungry police officers. In case you missed it, that's the issue here.

You seem to have very little understanding or sympathy for what people who use wheelchairs experience. Having to move even ten extra feet could be extremely taxing on some people. So a professional athlete could park closer to the door?

Just shut up and listen to the police.
You'd think people would learn this. Even if the cop is an @sshole. File a complaint later, but shut up and do what he says now. These guys do a thankless job dealing with the worst of humanity, and are on edge. Don't push them. It seems like common sense.
