Do you have a better way to answer naive and unsupported arguments? The fact is that you are trying to defend sociology's job market for no rational reason and without any clear evidence.
I believe it's a solid piece of advice to than one should avoid sociology if uncertain. An economics PhD, for instance, is just as intellectually stimulating and gives you much better job prospects. However, if you really have a professor you want to work with and a subfield that your research perfectly fits in sociology, go for it. But don't enter with the illusion that things will be easy in the long run.
