   Yes. It has to do with the academic institutions, the relations of power, and the psychology (i.e. ‘big personalities) of many of the individuals who choose to go into academia to begin with.

   There is drama across so disciplines. It’s universal. Sociology isn’t special. (Though maybe a little more ironic, given the types of things we study).

   ^visit an English department with declining undergraduate enrollment and slashed funding. A strong English department might place one graduate student in a so-so job each year. Sociology has much more money and jerbs. The problems don't compare.

    Yep, esp literacy theory circles. Maybe due to a combination of insane competition and the belief that oppression is primarily rooted in communication/language. People with the latter belief are simply not enjoyable to talk with.

    Sociology is downright cheerful and relaxed in comparison.

    Any "X" studies discipline is usually worse. Cultural Anthro is much worse, although that can be tempered by physical anthros depending. Geography is usually worse. Psychology departments are famous for having difficult/crazy people.

    Sociology isn't even close to the worst.
