Well, you got my gender wrong, but why stop there? You claim I'm seeking some kind of ego boost, when in fact, a) this is a terrible place to fluff (or assuage bruised) egos (take note), and b) my citation count has already been dwarfed by others already on this thread; it is also dwarfed by a number of scholars I consider peers.
I'm not sure what comments you are referring to--all I've said is that deans care about citations, which is irrelevant to my own motives for posting. And speaking of motives, your reaction to this topic suggests you are someone with whom I'd enjoy playing poker.
I realize the job market sucks, but it's no excuse to be a complete ass.
My count is respectable but hardly noteworthy, considering what I've seen from my peers (thanks for that helpful and sincere bit of advice, btw, but I've already done that). Anyway, if you're not denying that deans and T&P committees care about cites, then we have no argument, except regarding your defensive prick attitude.
The only argument I have is with your motives, which you declared to be "idle curiosity," but which has been repeatedly belied by your subsequent statements in this thread. You can think I'm a defensive prick all you want, but at least I didn't come to an anonymous message board to swing mine.
