I think it's more to do with the fact that ASU is not a traditional kind of university. Very disruptive in terms of research support. If your department is getting it done, they'll shower you with money. If not, you get the axe. The department itself has had massive infusions of financial support and obviously has risen in the rankings, but the leadership consistency has not been there. Decker got caught up in the Travis Pratt stuff, then they had Cassia Spohn (not exactly a people person) and then you had John Gould (odd selection) running things for about a year and half before he left. Now theyre about to have Beth Huebner run things and that will not likely go too well.
How come no one wants to work at ASU? BC the program consists of a bunch of big egos doing quant work in a dustbowl of a city with no water supply?

He's making it up. I know one of these is false.
Dabney or BH at ASU. UCF still looking. S. Carolina is Sheldon Zhang. UMD is Eric Silver.
ES from PSU to UMD, and SZ from UML to SC? Any sources? How would you know so many details about so many disparate programs?is ES to UMD legit?

No. I don’t think so.

Huebner played the whole thing well. Said no to the first offer. Then, when they indicated that they would not go with their 2nd choice (Sheldon Zhang) or the 3rd choice (Dean Dabney) she knew she had them by the short hairs. When they asked her again if she'd reconsider, she picked up a ton of money and got her boyfriend from SLU a sweet job as well.
ASU tried to hire Huebner but she backed and they?re closing it all down.
I wonder how she's dealing. At least one senior person left.
