buying a new cat makes pretty much zero sense
-
Serious question: have you seen those cats that look like little leopards? How does it make sense to get a cat that is not one of those, because they're cute-dorable as all hell. I'd shell out the big bucks for one of those bad boys because it would literally make me happy every time I saw it. They look like tiny leopards! And you can play with them! And watch them hunt laser pointer lights! How much would you pay to watch a normal sized leopard hunt a laser pointer?
Also worth the money in terms of happiness return on financial investment: those tiny Japanese cats with the giant heads and folded over little ears.

Wonder how much genetic meddling had to be done to achieve those super cool leopard kitties. Lots of money plunked down, lots of genetic anomalies that yield early disease or bone/joint issues, lots of sadness when your kitty dies earlier than it would have had it not been a "purebred" cat, lots of money back to the breeders to make it happen again.
Yippee!
Unless this kind of cat production is different, take a look at how we get "purebred" dogs. You'll go back to finding the domestic house cat just as cute. Or at least vowing to only adopt the leopard kitty with no home (if there is such a thing).
