Wondering if there is a program with the best concentration in education, particularly related to urban
Best Soc and/of Ed program
-
Stanford and Harvard and Columbia and probably a few other schools ecause they have lots of prestigious sociologists at the schools but almost all of them are not in the department. One thing you'll want to dig into is whether faculty at the education programs are willing to work with grad students in the main degree program.
For Soc of Ed the top programs are probably (in no particular order) Wisconsin, Princeton, UT-Austin, UNC, and Indiana.

I really don't know what's going on over at Hopkins. The department seems to specialize in international political economy. A few people who do that can be good for a department, but that's about half their faculty now. They have a few good urban sociologists and a couple good (old) demographers, but it seems like they're investing pretty hard in areas that aren't where the field is going.
