Wowwwwww
This is something:

Holy fie/c/k. ASA to toilet. He should sue them. Has anyone written up the other side of the story?
She also publicly said she wouldnt cite his PUBLISHED work that she admits she used, because he didn't cite her UNPUBLISHED work he had never read.
The entit/lement from her is like wow.
Not if the untenured person was calling out someone who did the messed up things that this woman is being accused of.
You're scared. That's ok.
But, don't make it a racial thing when it's not.
Publicly calling out a B woman would be the end of a non-tenured person's career.

Accidental good vote. You are either blind or willfully st00pid. She brought a posse to the panel and had them shout Rob down. It’s about who can speak the loudest, not who is in the right with these people.
Since the beginning of history academics have invited their supportive friends to their panels.
What does that have to do with race? What does that have to do with your refusal to criticize her if you know that she did something wrong?
Who cares how she framed it? If you know she's wrong and you're not criticizing her then that's because you're scared.

They have a good reason to be scared if they're not tenured. This lady showed she has no problem snitching on someone for the crime of critiquing her work and making it about race. If she's willing to do that, what makes you think her and her friends wouldn't write outside letters accusing a person who posts on social about it of being a r/a/c/i/s/t, of being a s/e/x/u/a/l predator, etc. when they're up for tenure? Admin are even bigger p/u/s/s/i/e/s and won't tenure someone with any of those allegations no matter how much merit they lack.

The man was kicked out of the phuking conference! Now you’re def tr0//ing or a certified rahtard.
This is cowardice masquerading as powerlessness.
You want to complain about stuff that's wrong, not do anything about it, and make excuses.
Then you keep complaining that nothing can be done, and blame everything other than you.
People around the world are going to jail and getting k/i/l/l/e/d for standing up for their beliefs, but you're scared that some academics are going to say mean things that might stop you from having a cushy job.

I don’t know, maybe it’s because you’re smooth brained, but the OP is literally a demonstration of what happens when you do the thing you’re advocating for. Bonus points that you missed the part where the B lady accused him of being a whyte (he wasn’t) as the pretext for having him ejected. Now imagine what would happen if he actually was whyte. She was ready to use his skin color to her advantage to get out of having to handle honest critique and misfired.

It's called risk/rewards, d/u/m/b/a/s/s. The rewards are at best four people like your tweet and this woman does nothing different. The risk is that you lose you aren't promoted and tenured and can't find another one because you've been slandered as a r/a/c/i/s/t, and then y.ou become homeless. It's a pretty easy decision unless you're tenured.
1) people who criticize your work are doing you A HUGE FAVOR. The only appropriate response is to take notes and thank your critic.
2) if it crossed into “hara/s\s/ment”, the accusers must publicly give a specific reason for sanctioning the deviant. What exactly did he do wrong? How else will the rest of us know where the line is (Durkheim)?
3) there should be due process. ASA should have asked Weide for his side, and interviewed his own witnesses.
There should be a very high bar for 86ing a conference attendee. We have only Weide’s side for now. Until his accusers make a public case, the default should be in Weide’s favor.
Look. I'm agreeing with you. She's a Melvin if she did what he said she did.
But, you think he did something admirable and got wronged. And, rather than support him you're going to bury your head in the sand. That is fine.
All this talk about "risk" etc. is just a long drawn out way for you to say you're a coward.

Nobody said anything about not supporting Weide. Everybody is arguing with you that trying to pull off a Weide-style takedown in the future seems futile because of exactly what happened to Weide, especially as a junior faculty member. That’s not cowardice. Decidin
...See full postYeah,
That's still using a lot of words to call yourself a coward.
"Oh no. Sanctions!" I completely acknowledge the power dynamics. I'm not saying you're wrong to be a coward. That's a decision you get to make.
I'm saying don't lie and say that it's something other than cowardice .

Waiting to hear both sides of the story is the fair way to do it.
And, once they get the full story people should do what they want to do.
But, my first point was in response to someone who KNOWS that Weide is being honest about what happened.
1) sure, it is co/wa/r]dly to stay quiet in the face of injustice (if thats what this is; it seems like it but we dont have complete info)
2) better to be an employed co/wher/d than to enter some minor kerfuffle like this and risk losing your career
