There's nothing wrong with ac-adjacent jobs. These are professional careers. Faculty view me as an equal.
It's ok if your academic failures led to this as a backup option.

I think you guys meant to post this very productive exchange to the pretend it's SJMR in 2015 thread.
What's wrong with ac-adj job? Why all the hate?
Shame. There's a reason someone is trying to flood this board to avoid further shame w/ their academic adjacent career.

"adult babysitters (student affairs)" funny and true!
Folks in research administration make much more $ than professors but its not exactly stimulating
These folks are usually paper pushers (grant management), sales (fundraising), or adult babysitters (student affairs).

One of these things is not like the other. Advancement and grants admin are some of the highest paid jobs on campus. And they can be done with bachelors degrees
PP. I could see that, but I think advance and grants admin are the first to get cut when there's a budget shortfall. That's what my R1 did in 2008.
My uni gives advancement staff stupid hyper-inflated titles (Managing Associate Dean for Fundraising)...... probably to make them feel important and not pay them as much $
We do that with student affairs too-Senior Associate Dean for Management of Student Well-Being, lol
