Has anyone gotten an academic-adjacent job? If so, what kinds of jobs did you get? Are these stimulating for PhDs?

I work for the pay or I would be a volunteer at humane society. 2/3 of these ^ jobs earn much larger paychecks than professors
As a tenured professor, I work 3 days a week, have a 9 mo contract, make 6 figures, and have no boss.
University staff work 5 days a week, have a 12 mo contract, most do not make 6 figures, and they have multiple bosses (including me).

Wife makes 3x highest tenured salary in soc/anth/crim/polisci. No students. No nights or weekends. And she is paid in summer like adults in every field except edu

People assume you are only working there as a Plan B. You will be looked over for mentorship and training because people assume you would rather be elsewhere.
Yes... Those who know you have a PhD will have pity on you. Those who know you have a PhD from a top program will assume something is wrong with you personally.
