Yes. That’s ST’s salary (2019). Get a look at the Asst Prof salaries. Goodness! Those POOR people.
yeah, basically the only good school district in the whole LA area that's not a million miles from ucla is south pasadena, and you can't get a 3BR home there for less than a million.
Did you also look at the rent and home prices in LA?

Pretty sure UCLA offers faculty housing stipends, and UCI offers faculty housing enclaves, which are very affordable.
Some of the UCI salaries are absurd.
Doing some math
Salary of 296k after taxes and 20% per month retirement in CA is around 7k a month.
COL per month for a family of 4 is around 4k.
Avg. House price in South Pasadena is 1.3 million. 20 year mortgage at 0% is about $5500 per month.
I can'be mad at anyone making a living wage that allows retirement and home ownership in a good school district.
I know someone who was at UCLA a few years back and the housing package was a 0% interest rate loan for up to a 40 year for housing. A number of the salaries are absurd. Amazing, aye?
Yeah, its good to be among the academic 1%. And every one of them is 100% convinced they earned it by merit.

That’s biweekly, mate. Take home pay is around 12,000 a month. A 40 year 0% mortgage on 1.25m is less than $3,000 a month (plus property taxes).
These people are creaming it.

You're right. This is why I don't do stats.
After taxes and retirement it's around $13,500 per month
Food, car insurance (for 2 cars) and utilities = $5,600
Monthyly mortgage on 1.3 mil with 20 year mortgage, 0 interest = $5,500
Take home after taxes, retirement, basic COL, and mortgage = $2,400
Even though my original math was off, I still see that as a living wage for a family of four that allows home ownership.
