Anyone who's served on a selection committee care to comment about how the sausage is made?
I'm assuming that our papers aren't blind-reviewed. And that given sheer volume of submissions and desire to not make any egregious mistakes, panel/session organizers are likely to go with their buddies & prominent people.
It also seems safe to assume that full papers are only skimmed, and that the selection process focuses mainly on abstracts, first page and conclusion, or citation list.
What are the chances a no-name AP or ABD with a decent but not stellar draft can get a spot on the program?
